Maria and Zach married July 19, 2009

My sexy couple finally got married at the Purple Iris and boy are their images hot! My only wish is that I had more time with them on their wedding day, I had so many cool ideas but the time just flew by to fast. When I first got there Maria gave me a present for my birthday, chocolate, sadly I was so busy I forgot it in their bridal suite :(. I did get to eat one piece and it was yummy. Chocolate is an aphrodisiac so hopefully Maria and Zach enjoyed them on their wedding night.

Things ran a little behind but we still got a lot of cool images of the couple and the bridal party before the ceremony. I had a little hitchhiker during the groomsmen shots so take a close look and play the game where was waldo. Maria wore the perfect dress I was hoping her dress would be a form fitting mermaid style. I just new that style would look great on her.

The ceremony went perfectly and Zach got to see his bride for the first time coming down the aisle. The after ceremony pictures went without a hitch I just wish I had more time with the couple. Of course I always wish that. Paul Shirley from Paul Shirley productions, a videographer, was at my side backing me up with his video camera in case I missed anything, and Greg from GS Productions kept the party going til the last dance. Have fun in Jamaica Maria and Zach and thanks so much for letting be part of your wedding. I had a wonderful time.

Tips for being on time for your wedding day

You have invested a lot of money on your wedding pictures. Don’t waste the Time that you have paid for by not showing up on Time. If your photographer has to rush, pictures that you wanted will be forgotten and the photographer will have to rush increasing the risk that something technical will go wrong. Plus your pictures may come out boring because the photographer didn’t have Time to be creative.

Hair appointments are the number one thing that cause brides and bridesmaids to be late for their photo shoot time. What ever time you think you need for your appointment, add an hour to it. The hairstylist may make a mistake and have to start over, or you may not like the way she does it the first time and have to redo it. It is also a very bad idea to only have one hairstylist doing everyone’s hair unless the bride is the only one who needs her hair done.

For the men the number one thing that makes them late is underestmating how long it will take to put on their tux and forgetting they need to pin on thier flowers. Groomsmen always think it will only take them 15 min to put on their tux. As they put it on they realize they don’t know how to do a part of the tux or they can’t get it alone and need help. Tell them to start an hour before they need to. The men never remember to pin on flowers.  In many cases they don’t even know they have flowers that they are suppose to be pinning on. Make sure to tell them about the flowers before the wedding and again at the rehearsal. Have their flowers delivered to where they are getting ready to help remind them as well.

Corset dresses are beautiful in the back, but they also take up to a half an hour to lace up. If it is a half hour from your photo start time and you haven’t already started lacing up your corset, you are already going to be late. It is also a good idea to practice lacing your dress with the person who will actually do it on the wedding day. Employees at dress shops lace dresses every day and make it seem fast and easy. Your mom or bridesmaid are not going to be as skilled as they are.

Everyone will be asking you questions, wanting to hug you, asking you where things go, all of these things will slow you down big time. So make sure you have more time than you need. Also assign someone who is not getting photographed that you trust to handle these questions for you so you can relax and concentrate on getting ready.

Even the late arrival by one or more people can really cause a disruption. Please emphasize that you’re Time and the photographers are carefully planned to ensure that we get all photographs of the requested shots in the least possible Time and so that you do not feel rushed.

It is very important to finish before the guests begin to arrive. You can help by making sure everyone is ready for photographs (completely dressed, with flowers pined, etc) before the assigned Times. The best thing to do is tell everyone evolved with photos to be ready at least 30 min before the intended start Time and hand out the schedule to bridal party and family that the photographer makes for you well in advance of the wedding day. Make sure the groom and groomsmen are dressed and pinning on flowers a 1/2 hour before their shoot. Most Times they forget until its Time to start and this can take up to 15 to 30 minutes of you’re photography Time.

Another way to help move things along is to give your photographer a list of family and friends names along with the poses that you want. It is easier for the photographer to get someone’s attention if he/she knows his or her name.

Make sure you give this schedule to everyone you want photographed ahead of Time so they know when and where to be. Also inform them ahead of Time that it is important for everyone who is being photographed to stay in the area of the photographer. A lot of Time can be lost if we have to stop and search for people when it’s their turn.

If you want to allow family photography during the pose sessions, it is very important to inform them ahead of Time to let the photographer get their shots first.  Studios sometimes use slave strobes that are triggered by light. If someone shoots just before the photographer, the professional photo will be ruined. Wait for the photographer to say it’s OK. Letting family and friends take photos will slow the sessions down so more Time will need to be scheduled.

And don’t forget to have fun!

Another Recent Wedding Album layout

Tiffany turned her album picks in faster than anyone ever. Her wedding was just in April and she already has her finished album. Way to go Tiffany. I try to make my albums look more consistant than I did in the past so that the client can have a better Idea of what their album is going to look like. I of course throw in some personal flair here and there but the big picture stays the same. I do need to update my samples I show. But that will have to wait. Here’s the layout I hope it helps inspire brides and other photographers.

Stacey and Jeremy married on July 11, 2009

Stacey and Jeremy’s wedding turned out perfectly! We even had extra time before the ceremony, that almost never happens. I was able to do some extra stuff with them which made me a very happy photographer. I actually broke my image amount record! I ended up shooting over 770 images for them.

Stacey and Jeremy met at their prom and fell in love. Then, one lovely Valentine’s day Jeremy proposed to Stacey at Nick’s Airport Inn on one knee in front of everyone! If it were me, I would have been blushing with joy.

Their wedding ceremony was held at Macedonia UB Church in Greencastle and was preformed by Stacy’s pappy who broke into tears as he began to read about love. It was so sweet. The reception was held at Maugansville UAW Hall close to where my grandparents used to live. I wonder who lives in that house now? The beautiful dresses came from David’s Bridal and the tuxes from Formal Den. The catering and the wedding cakes were done by Canapes and the food was good, wish I had more time to eat. Stacey’s bouquet was made by Jennifer’s Florals and the bridesmaids bouquets were made by Stacey’s grandmother. The entertainment for the night was provided by Knights of the Turntable. They did a great job of keeping the party hopping. They also had a really neat ice sculpture that had a funnel run threw it to do shots. That was a lot of fun! The sculpture was made by Ice Kristals. Congratulations to the both of you! I hope your having the best time ever on your honeymoon!

Recent Album layout and Wedding album advice for couples

I get alot of my ideas for album layouts by looking at other photographers’  layouts so to keep the sharing going I thought I’d put one of my layouts on my blog. I’ll put some other ones up too, later. I use pixel creator pro to help me with my designs. I find it easier than starting from scratch in photoshop. I like to keep my designs simple and most of the time I start with a black background. I think black brings out the color of the images more.

Before I post the layout I wanted to talk about ordering an album. I’ve noticed that couples put off choosing the images for their albums for a really long time. I’m not sure why but I would like to get to the bottom of it. In fact, in most cases the only way I can get my clients to pick the images for their albums is by sending them out a notice telling them that I’m going to close out their contract and they’ll lose their album if they don’t order it by a certain date. I’m not sure if it’s because their lives are just really busy, they forget about it, they’re just tired of all the wedding stuff, they are afraid of picking bad images, or a combo of all of these. After spending so much money on an album I would want to get mine right away.

I’m going to give you a few reasons why you shouldn’t wait so long. The first one is because after a year or so has passed the photographer is no longer going to remember your wedding or your personalities anymore. It’s really hard to design an album when you no longer remember who those people were to the couple and how the images are important and relate to each other. The photograper wants your album to tell your story and it’s really hard to do that when you can’t remember the story anymore.

Another reason is that the album you ordered may no longer be available and you may have to pick another one that may be more expensive or not be exactly like the one you originally ordered. Products change constantly and get discontinued. Ordering your album quickly after the wedding insures you’ll get the same album that you originally picked.

The last reason I’m going to give today, even though there are many more, is that prices change. Album companies tend to raise their prices at least once a year and when that happens the photographer has to raise their price too. You may have paid $800 originally but if you wait a year or more to pick your images your photographer may have to add additional costs to you or downgrade your album because of price changes.

My advice to couples is if you have an album in your package, order it soon after the wedding so the above doesn’t happen to you. I would suggest within a few  weeks of the wedding while it’s still fresh in your photographer’s mind.  Because couples take so long picking their images, alot of photographers no longer let couples pick the images for their own albums. The photographer picks them.  Photographers feel that the albums get done quicker that way and that the albums will look better if the photographer picks the images because we pick images that tell the story and not images we feel obligated to put in because of family issues. Anyway, my two cents about albums I hope you find it useful. Enjoy the layout.
